Process Art Resource Books

My previous post spoke to the benefits of process art. Today I’m sharing Process Art Resource Books. These books have inspired me to take action and to include process art opportunities in my learning space.

You can find these books at your favourite bookstore, online bookshop or perhaps at your local library.

Wonder Art Workshop – Sally Haughey Sally is the founder of Fairy Dust Teaching and is an incredible advocate for play and child-led experiences. I love how she provides a rationale for child-led experience. She also outlines potential materials and includes pictures of the wonder and experiences that children have with the materials. In addition, she provides possible extensions for older children.

Play Make Create – Meri Cherry Meri Chery is the founder of Meri Cherry Art Studio and is a passionate advocate for Process Art. I love that this book provides simple to follow invitations to create. She provides suggested materials and process prompts. I really love the detailed photographs. These photos help me as the reader, to imagine how the experience might unfold in my classroom.

Art Workshop for Children – Barbara Rucci This resource not only provides you with unique child-led experiences to add to your classroom, but it also provides the adult with suggestions on how to be an observer who asks questions to encourage deeper thinking and wonder. The book includes suggested materials for each activity, process steps and extension suggestions.

Artist inspiration book

Mini Artists – Josephine Seblon If you are wanting a book that connects art experiences to artists through the ages, this is a great choice. The book includes an artist or art piece to use as a conversation starter or for inspiration. Each activity includes suggested materials, potential process steps and photos of children engaged in the activity.

Create book

Time to Create – Christie Burnett Christine is the writer of a popular Australian parenting blog. Her book is organized into different sections. She includes the following sections: drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, sculpture, textiles photography and natural materials. A great resource for your youngest learners.

The Artful Year – Jean Van’T Hul Jean is also the author of The Artful Parent and shares her thinking on her blog at www.Artfulparent.com. Jean shares how to include materials and experiences in your home space that will encourage creativity and wonder in your child. The Artful Year is organized according to the seasons. It also includes recipes to explore with children.
