Previously we had examined 2-D shapes and now we have been exploring 3-D objects.  The children are learning to describe a 3-D objects using terms such as the number of faces or number of points, whether it has straight edges or curved edges.  They are also talking about real items that the object is like.  We have also been exploring the relationships among 3-D objects and 2-D shapes.

Benefits of Exploring 3-D Objects

Opportunities for hands-on building and exploring 3-D objects is a favourite for my Kindergarten students.  Through these activities the students are working on concepts such as under, over, through, rotating, planning, designing  and trial and error.  Playing with and building 3-D objects support the development of spatial reasoning in our children.
