Experiential Learning In Kindergarten

Experiential learning is learning by doing. First hand experiences with materials and resources engage children in ways that watching a video or reading a book can not.

Experiential education makes learning new things more fun and exciting.

Experiential learning promotes:

  • A sense of wonder and fosters curiosity
  • Investigation and inquiry
  • Critical thinking

This past week we have been observing our caterpillars. The children have been noting the change in size as well as the process of the caterpillar preparing for the chrysalis stage. The children have been asking questions and drawing conclusions. They are using reference materials such as non-fiction books and videos to find their answers.

I have also included butterfly (insect) related activities in the classroom for the children to explore.

Here are a few more photos of children engaged in learning (loose parts and finger paint colour mixing)
