Northern Lights in Kindergarten

This week we discussed snow which led to the Arctic and the Northern Lights in our Kindergarten class. I read several books with the class and we followed it with a painting activity.

Northern Lights Painting

The watercolour and salt painting activity allowed children to show their understanding of the Northern Lights in a fun and creative way. I emphasize process oriented art over product oriented crafts. This means that the children are encouraged to explore the materials as opposed to creating something that looks like the sample. Trying new techniques and using materials in different ways are important for our young children.
